Artist Statement
The melding of both old and new was an idea that drew me to starting this project.
These objects, which I found at local consignment stores, represent the past or past aesthetics. Most of these objects would not be typically seen in the homes of this current generation. These photographs bring attention to the old, but in an interesting and new way. Color film brings attention to the subject as color draws the viewers’ eyes. I have taken these photographs underwater as the water brings texture, and the out of focus objects add a sense of disorientation. By adding bath colorants, I was able to add color to the water directly. Printing these photographs large engulfs the viewer. The color draws the viewer in while the water patterns and old objects causes the viewer to look at the image as a whole. Taking these photographs underwater not only was a way to draw attention and intrigue, but is a way to show these objects as almost drowned in the new.
These nine photographs were printed 12x18 & mounted on 14x20 white mounting board.Â
